How can TPE/TPR be more hardy
First of all, the performance of cold resistance in which pieces, rubber molecular chain will be reduced with the temperature, activity capacity, hardness, modulus and molecular friction increased, reached a certain low temperature when the molecular chain frozen, hardening completely lost elasticity, rubber or elastomer "plastic". This temperature is the Tg glass conversion temperature, but not all the temperature of low-temperature resistant materials are marked with Tg, because it is not applicable to some non-crystalline materials.
The following is about the influence factors of each component of the formula on low temperature resistance.
First,SEBS/SBS base material
It can be said that the most important part of TPE/TPR is SEBS/SBS, which has the greatest influence. Styrene and butadiene are hard and soft segments respectively, so the lower the content of styrene, the better the low temperature resistance of TPE/TPR.
Second,TPE/TPV base material
For non-crystalline elastomer materials, the lower the crosslinking density, the better the low temperature resistance of the materials. TPE without chemical crosslinking is naturally better than TPV in low temperature resistance.
Third,Selection of softening oil
White oil and other oils can reduce the hardness of elastomers, also have some beneficial effects on the low temperature resistance, but in the choice of white oil should try to choose the lower pour point of the oil.
Fourth,Packing selection
If necessary, try to choose some soft or spherical fillers. Although the addition of fillers will not significantly affect the Tg glass conversion temperature, it will affect the hardness, modulus and increase rate of intra molecular friction at low temperature, so it needs to be considered.
